| Before the rays of the rising Sun
touch Mother Earth, the reverberations of the chanting of hymns and
devotional songs permeating from the holy precincts of a temple at
the eastern entrance to the City of Kochi start filling the minds
of the umpteen city comers with piety and freshness. The famous HARIHARASUDHA
TEMPLE located at Palarivattom junction, on the western side of Palarivattom
- Thammanam road is a welcoming spiritual sign to all those who enter
the city from northern and eastern directions and is the abode of
Kaliyugavaradan Swami Ayyappan showering his abundant blessings on
the devout. Those who alight at Palarivattam can have a gratifying
darshan of the Lord and even those who pass by vehicles cannot miss
the high temple mast and help bowing their head in reverence. The
glorious development of Palarivattam is so religiously founded and
linked to the temple that it stands a sparkling jewel in the forehead
of the area as is divinely symbolised by the perpetual oil lamp (Kedavilakku)
in front of the temple. |
| About 50 years ago, the pious desire of a few devotees
of Lord Ayyappa, in and around Palarivattam area, culminated in a
small Bhajana Madom (Prayer Hall) and regular poojas and prayers at
the Bhajana Madom enabled them attain spiritual fulfillment in a humble
way. In course of time the number of attendants at the prayers started
growing manifold and the Bhajana Madom could not contain all the devotees
at a time. It was not long before the Madom grew into a small temple
with Swami Ayyappan as the presiding deity and other UpaDevanmar in
appropriate locations. |

| During the year 1994, the temple renovation work commenced
under the Presidentship of Sri. Polakulathu Narayanan. The construction
of the present new temple with Chuttambalam was completed during April
1997 and the temple was consecrated on 11th April 1997 by Sri. Parur
Sreedharan Thantrigal. |
| The Lord can be seen in the same posture as He is at
Sabarimala with the domineering Chinmudra and is enshrined in the
octagonal shaped sanctum sanctorum with the Dwarapalakas guarding
Him outside. Separate temples have been built for the UpaDevanmar,
viz. MahaGanapathy in the Southwest, MahaVishnu in the West, SreeParvathy
in the West, SubramaniaSwamy in the Northwest and SreeParameswaran
in the Northeast within the Chuttambalam itself. The temple well in
the Northeast of Sreekovil provides perennial supply of water for
the use at the temple. The spacious NamaskaraMandapam and circumambulating
path infuse tranquility in worshippers. The temples for other UpaDevanmar
NagaRaja, NagaYekshi and Rakshas are sanctified in the Southwest of
the main temple compound, SreeHanumanSwamy in the Northern side and
Navagrahas in the Eastern side. The Panchamukha (with five heads)
idol of SreeHanumanSwamy is the speciality of this temple. The huge
Banyan tree at the front side of the temple extends its soothing shade
not only to the temple compound but to the adjacent road also. A small
mandapam housing the statue of the great reformer Sree Narayana Guru
has been built close to the basement of the banyan tree. |
| Sri. V K Saji Santhi is the Melsanthi(Chief priest)
of the temple. |
